It’s that time of the year where people are busy cleaning the graves of their departed ones. And this is what they do, including me. But that’s way before I have known the truth about it. It was 1998 when I found out, what we were doing is not written in the Bible. It’s really a great thing to know you have been liberated from a false and wrong doing of giving a feast to the dead. Is it disrespectful to not do that? Or are we disrespecting God the more we do it? What did I learn to desist from doing it again?
Let’s dive into the information inside the Bible.
Why does death occur? It occurs because it is appointed by God (Hebrews 9:27), it is an event that needs to happen to all of us and we can’t do something about it. So many people have tried finding a way to beat this thing called death. This is one proof or one way of showing that there is a God, which we can’t stop or hold what He has said (Deuteronomy 32:39 and Ecclesiastes 8:8). People have kept on looking at what they call “Fountain of Youth”, the staff that killed Jesus Christ, and so many others. They want or rather, we want to be immortal and we want to exceed what God has said but no one has already done that, and even great scientist of the most magnitude knowledge. Well, I do admit even I have been searching for those things, I want to become immortal or to defeat death. If you have read my 2nd post (My Depression and My Emote (Deep Press Yun and Emote ko) you will understand why?
So now there are two kinds of death, the death of a good person (Isaiah 57:1) and the death of an evil person (Proverbs 11:7), and both deaths have the same ending, they will be brought back to life for judgment (John 5:28-29), both will be judged according to their works (Revelation 20:12).
But before judgment happens, there is a span of tîme until it comes, that we think we know where they are, others say they are already in heaven, there in purgatory, their in hell. Actually, they are not! The righteous dead are under the altar before the throne (Revelation 6:9), and the evil dead in prison (2 Peter 3:18-19). And are they both conscious, do they remember anything, or do they know where they are? It is a big NO! We, the living knows we will die, But the dead doesn’t know anything (Ecclesiastes 9:5). God wants us to do everything while we are alive, do good to all men (Galatians 6:10), because there is nothing in the grave that we will be going when the time comes (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
I am now going to ask, why now we should give prayers for the dead, or anoint them? Are we going to give them a feast or get scared of them? They won’t get any reward. That is why there are no acts of the Apostles that they have prayed for the dead. The Apostles only do and teach us examples which we are going to follow (1 Corinthians 4:6 and 1 John 1:3) in order for us to have fellowship with them, the Apostles, with the Father, and of Jesus Christ His Son. Who should we be doing or making the praying for? Not the dead but for the living (1 Juan 5:16), and not even to those who are living and who sins unto death or do evil. That is also why it is part of my title “the living dead or zombie”because there are real people who are living but for God, they are already dead (1 Timothy 5:6). God is not the god of the dead but the living, those people who have already died but are righteous for Him they are alive (Matthew 22:32). Though those that have died as God’s servants have not yet received the promise of going to heaven. There is no one yet that has been brought in heaven not even Mary the mother of Jesus Christ.
